MORE ABOUT HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER
Frequently Asked Questions

The easiest way is to click the Schedule Free Consultation button on any page of my website, or you can email, text, or call me at DrJennaHolden@gmail.com or 949.205.5545 to set up your free 15-minute phone consultation.

“Online” can be phone calls or video sessions. I find most of my clients prefer phone sessions when addressing anxiety and relationship challenges, but video is an option for all clients. EMDR is best done via secure video platform.
Sometimes we start with video to introduce ourselves, and then move to phone sessions. It’s all up to how you feel. If we work together, I will call you or connect via camera at the time of our session. Sessions are 50 minutes, unless specified otherwise.
-
My services are only available by phone or video sessions for residents of California at this time.

I specialize in working with individuals over the age 18 who are struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, and unresolved trauma. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California, so in order for us to work together, you must be in California. The free 15-minute consultation is a great way to see if we are a good client-clinician match.
-
My standard fee for individuals is $225 per 50-minute session.
Couples and family sessions start at $250.

I do not currently accept insurance, however, your carrier may reimburse you at their out-of-network rate. Payment for services is required in full at each session. I can provide you with a “superbill,” or monthly claim form, that you may submit to your insurance carrier for possible reimbursement. Please call your carrier directly to inquire about the extent and limits of coverage for your particular plan and needs prior to session.
Some helpful questions to ask your provider might be:
What is my coverage for outpatient mental health? What is the reimbursement rate for an out-of-network provider? How many sessions are covered per calendar year? What is my deductible and how much has been met? Is EMDR covered?
-
We will get to know each other a little bit, but we can jump right in! I usually ask what feels the most pressing to you at the moment and things flow from there.

I find that weekly sessions are the most effective, especially for processing trauma and more intense feelings of anxiety. When we go longer than a week, we lose the emotional charge of experiences. It is harder to go back and remember, rather than address things as they come up so we can work through them together. It also makes for more ground to cover in 50 minutes.
I do see some clients every other week, but most often for “maintenance” style treatment plans or if that is what their schedule can accommodate. We can discuss our schedules and goals to determine the best plan of action.
-
While I find it is best to have a set weekly or bi-weekly session time, I try to be flexible with scheduling, availability permitting.
I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, but if I can find an alternative time that works that same week, I am happy to switch times.
-
It depends on several factors including goals, consistency, and presenting problems. I have had clients with situation-specific issues be resolved in 3 sessions. I have clients that choose therapy to be their primary method of self-care and wish to continue weekly sessions, or some as-needed on a “maintenance” schedule. There is no way to guarantee timelines in therapy, and I don’t have a minimum amount of sessions for clients to see results. My goal as your therapist is for you to walk away with something each session, whether that’s new skills, tools, insight, comfort, relief, or all of the above.

My work is highly specialized in my focus areas of breaking cycles of anxiety, relationship challenges, and trauma. We work together because our goals and styles mesh, not because of schedule availability. There is no hot-potato from one therapist to another.
This is my passion and my priority. No matter how long we talk, I aim to provide a connecting and positive therapeutic experience from consultation to graduation.
